Neck & Chin Liposuction

During your facial liposuction procedure, you shouldn’t feel any pain due to the carefully selected anesthesia that is used to make your experience more comfortable. It is common for patients to experience some slight discomfort during recovery, but in general, mild soreness and fullness should not last for more than several days. While any pain should be mild and very well tolerated, Dr. Raggio does offer a number of prescription medications that can minimize any discomfort, anxiety, nausea, swelling, bruising, and inflammation related to your procedure to optimize your recovery. You can also use cool compresses and ensure your head remains elevated to alleviate any extra swelling and discomfort. Overall, however, Liposuction represents a very safe and well-tolerated procedure that can be performed in-office with minimal risks and little to no downtime.

Dr. Raggio will usually have his Neck & Chin Liposuction patients return to the Raggio MD office about a week after surgery so he can remove any stitches (if not absorbable) and inspect your healing progression. The level of improvement seen at this point varies depending on the amount of liposuction that was required and the patient’s innate capacity for swelling, which is related to your age, smoking history, and overall ability to heal amongst other factors.

Dr. Raggio may have you return for a few more follow-ups depending on how you are healing and generally recommends follow-up appointments be scheduled 1 week, 1 month, and 4 months after your surgery to ensure you are recovering as planned. Dr. Raggio will always let you know when he would like for you to return, and you are encouraged to reach out to us at any time with questions or concerns.

Those with moderate to severe amounts of fat removed will often see an improvement despite the swelling that is still present. With mild cases, we do sometimes see a small improvement after one week, but the swelling often compensates for the small amount of fat removed. Resolution of swelling is also highly variable among patients.

Typically, patients see notable improvements every week for the first three to six weeks. Final results are typically appreciated at four months after surgery.

Yes! Many of our Birmingham, AL Neck & Chin Liposuction patients will combine their procedure with other cosmetic Facial surgeries, particularly those geared towards facial slimming and contouring.

Such procedures include buccal fat removal, chin implantation, jawline filler, radiofrequency microneedling, and lower face botulinum toxin (i.e., Botox).
